Small-town character, wide-open farmland and historic Main Street charm, just 18 miles from downtown St. Augustine.
Why People Love Living in Hastings
Hastings offers something increasingly rare in St. Johns County: room to breathe. Here you’ll find acreage, farmland and quiet country roads, with St. Augustine, the beaches and Jacksonville all within reach. Buyers come for the land, the slower pace and the sense of community. They stay because Hastings still feels like a hometown.
A Town With Deep Roots
Hastings was founded in 1890 by Thomas Horace Hastings, a cousin of Henry Flagler, to grow vegetables for Flagler’s grand St. Augustine hotels. The farms flourished, and Hastings became known as the “Potato Capital of Florida.” Potatoes, cabbage and other crops still define the landscape today. The town was incorporated in 1909 and, after a 2017 vote by residents, is now an unincorporated community within St. Johns County.

Each one calls for local knowledge. Values here can depend on acreage, zoning, utilities, road frontage and agricultural use as much as on the home itself.
